Debbie Stewart has served as Minister of Children in 2005 after serving as our Interim Minister of Children. Prior to joining our staff, Debbie was active as a lay leader in our children’s ministry and was very involved in the success of this ministry.
Debbie was born in Quantico, Virginia, the daughter of a Marine Lieutenant Colonel . For the next 20 years, her family moved from place to place and lived in 18 different locations. However, she visited her grandparents in West Tennessee regularly, and if you ask her where she is from, she will tell you West Tennessee. It was in this military environment that Debbie became a child of God at a very early age and her relationship with God became a major factor in her life. Debbie is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a B.S. in psychology and biology; and Darton College with a degree in dental hygiene. She felt called by God into ministry at the tender age of 12 but it was many years later before God finally led her into full time ministry with Children. It was not until 1996 God began to work in her life and move her to leave dentistry behind and begin to really prepare her for full time Children's Ministry.
For 18 years, Debbie has been married to Mr. Vol himself, Jay. They have two beautiful children, Jaimi who is a senior and Matthew, a sophomore, both at Mt. Juliet High School. The Stewart family is very athletic and each participates in some sport. Debbie played softball of the University of Tennessee at Martin and continues her love for the sport by playing at times with the church softball league. They are all huge UT fans and parade in their bright Orange & White as often as possible. She and her family have been in the Nashville area since 1995.
